Today’s post I’m going to follow up with a newer AMSOIL dealer that is frustrated that he’s not making more money.
I don’t know about you guys but I don’t feel super successful after being a dealer for 4 months and ~$500 investment in products, business cards, catalogs, stickers, website, and active Facebook posting. I just viewed my first commission report from Dec. and got $12.07! I am getting rejected from potential ROTS and commercial accounts because I’m essentially some random guy that isn’t actually a company rep or salesman.
I completely feel AMSOIL is getting over on me. I have invested all this time and money and $12.07 is what I am worth? Its hard to stay motivated when that’s what all these talks of DJ’s, CC’s, PC’s and ROTS accounts boil down to is an empty wallet. I jumped in headfirst, I was so excited for this opportunity…IMHO I’ve been turned off by MLM scams before and I thought AMSOIL was different but they aren’t.
Thank God I have a real career to support my family
Signed, Frustrated AMSOIL Dealer
Here is my response:
I’m somewhat frustrated every single day with my AMSOIL Business even at my current level of Regency Silver Direct Jobber.
How do I do better? How do I help more people? How do I continue to create a lifestyle that works for me. Why am I not further along?
The beauty of being frustrated is that it makes you think about these things, then figure out how to take action to become better.
Ask yourself, if I do this, then what would be the result. What if I had 10 new customers this month? What if I did this over a period of time? What would be my outcome? What have others done and what was their result? How many customers do I need to earn $1000 a month, $5,000 a month, $10,000 a month? How do I go about getting those customers. (I’ve got a web page that spells this out) amsoil.lube-direct.com/what-does-it-take
Your first AMSOIL commission sounds a lot like every single AMSOIL Dealers. Except those rare occasions when your first customers first order or was very large. In your scenario you probably registered a PC and they ordered about $100 or so worth of products. The actual commission would be around $2 and because you got a new customer you got a $10 bonus.
We live in an instant gratification world, we want it now! But just like any legitimate business it requires legitimate efforts.(I wrote a blog post about this) accountdirect.lube-direct.com/legitimate-business-requires-legitimate-efforts
Compare AMSOIL to most sales jobs where your manager would require X amount of calls per day. They would require so much in monthly sales. This is true for anything being sold. Luckily with AMSOIL there are no requirements, because it really sucks being under that pressure. The pressure to sell sell sell. I had one of those jobs. I hated it. My manager would send me an email at the end of the month. WHAT ARE YOUR NUMBERS??? WE NEED MORE SALES!!!
The key is to treat it like a business. Would YOU hire YOU?
I suggest taking some time to think about what your long term goals are. Then fill in the blanks to achieve those goals. Most people overestimate what they can do in the short term (say one year) but grossly underestimate what can be done in 5 years.
Go get the book, The Four Year Career by Richard Bliss Brooke, it’s available on Amazon in paperback, kindle and audio.
There truly is unlimited income potential. I believe the #1 AMSOIL dealer has yet to be even sponsored. Just wait, there is always someone who can do it faster and better.
Luckily you have a full time career, I suggest keeping that until which time it doesn’t make sense to keep it. If you have listened to Jim Rohn (Building your Network Marketing Business) audio cd, he says. “I was making 3 times on my part time business than I was at my full time job, but I didn’t want to give up my electrifying story.
In an interview I did with Mark Schell before he passed away he tells the story of when he turned in his retirement paperwork for his company. His supervisor laughed and said what are you going to do now, work that silly oil business. Mark replied back, that silly oil business makes me 3 times what you are paying me.
- This is not a get rich quick business. It may take some time for things to happen. Most people never become financially independent. What if it takes you 10 years? You will still be in the 5% of population.
- Ask yourself what does my future hold for me. In 5 years I will be 5 years older, but will I be 5 years smarter? Will I be 5 years more successful? Will my life be better in 5 years?
- Did your company give you a 5%, 10% or 50% raise last year? Did you even ask for one? I know that my company (AMSOIL) gave me a wonderful bonus at the end of the year, my business grew by at least 10%. Go ask your boss for a raise like that. How easy would it be for you to grow your business by 1000%? Go get a $100 check, then a $500 check, then a $1000 check.
- What is the economic potential for AMSOIL? Is this company growing or shrinking? Who will reap the benefits of hard work in the future?
Remember, the compensation plan is designed to reward hard work. I’ve seen some MLM companies that don’t pay a check until you have sponsored 30 or more people. Talk about frustrating I no of no one on my team that have sponsored 30 people. Be thankful we don’t get paid for sponsoring. We get paid for product sales.
At the Direct Jobber level the same work you are doing now will pay you 20 times for the same effort. Just like any type of “job” where you start at the bottom and work your way to the top. Just like McDonald’s etc. You start at minimum wage, luckily that’s not the top. “It’s not a bed, it’s a ladder” You climb the ladder. And compared to the corporate ladder where you can’t move up because there are many “Big Fat Butts” on the ladder that won’t let you by. Every AMSOIL dealer has the same opportunity to succeed. It doesn’t matter I am my own person and if success is to be it’s up to me.
Hope this pep talk helped.
In closing, the AMSOIL business isn’t for everyone. Sometimes it’s okay to just say, this isn’t for me. I don’t call that a failure, I call that deciding to move on. I did this with college, with at least 10 different jobs, with many things in life. I didn’t give up, I decided there were other things more important than what I was doing.
For me, the AMSOIL business has allowed me at age 45 to be financially independent, to be able to help people, to be able to teach people, to make a difference and to have a lifestyle that many dream about, but will never achieve.
And another great response from another successful AMSOIL Dealer:
Thinking one needs a retail outlet to build their business is not the way the AMSOIL business is intended or engineered. The old Voices of Success video was a good one, and the successful dealers featured on that video were a widow, wife of a mechanic, a government employee, an engineer, plus a few others.
I know of one dealer, who owned a quick lube, that became a DJ because of his business. I know other dealers, who own a quick lube or shop, and are not DJ’s.
Many dealers sponsor a few folks early on and quit sponsoring. And then wonder why they aren’t growing. Many dealers simply do not comprehend the power and leverage of an MLM opportunity.
A large AMSOIL business is built by network marketing, not selling out the door. While direct sales can be one part of a business, it is not the main part of a large AMSOIL business, with very few exceptions. A dealer has to protect business to his or her dealership, not simply move product.
You sell for today, and sponsor for tomorrow. If you don’t sponsor, tomorrow keeps getting further away–or never comes.

–Where do you want to be in 10 years? Decide right now what your life will be like, then design a plan to get there.
–Find a mentor or two and learn from them.
–Educate yourself constantly on business, leadership, networking, communication, and finance.
–Talk with your sponsor, DJ, Upline, and AMSOIL Inc until you get the right people in your Mastermind Group.
–Seek out and find other business professionals that can help. Plenty of them out there.
